Ashley Cherrelle’s art challenges social norms and “acceptable” trends within the Black community while preserving its culture. Instead of focusing on oppression, she creates worlds that defy stereotypes, celebrating self-love, individuality, spirituality, peace, and joy. Her work offers a transformative perspective that uplifts and redefines conventional narratives.

Ashley Cherrelle is a self-taught mixed media and illustration artist originally from Huntsville, Alabama, now based in Orlando, Florida. Her artistic journey began early—her elementary school art teacher submitted one of her pieces to a local art festival, recognizing her natural talent and creative potential. As a child, Ashley Cherrelle often collaborated with her sister to bring stories to life through her illustrations, developing a visual storytelling style.

Like many creatives, Ashley Cherrelle experienced a lull in inspiration during adulthood, but reignited her passion by enrolling in various creative workshops, including sculpture, painting, sewing, and pottery. These experiences reconnected her with her artistic identity and introduced her to new ways of making.

Today, Ashley’s preferred mediums include pencil drawing and craft-based techniques, but she is currently in an exploratory phase—experimenting with texture, collage, and material layering. With a deep love for creative expression in all forms, Ashley Cherrelle aims to evolve into a fully interdisciplinary artist, continually expanding her practice and artistic voice.
